Spring is here, summer is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate the warmer seasons than by hosting a barbecue party?
Barbecues are always a great way to bring family and friends together for a fun and relaxed gathering. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a newbie to hosting barbecues, here are some tips and ideas to help you plan the perfect outdoor party…
Plan Ahead
The key to a successful barbecue party is planning ahead. Decide on the date, time, and location of your party, and send out invitations as far in advance as possible – two weeks should be enough.
Of course, that’s easier said than done, as it can be difficult to predict the weather. So make sure that you look up weather forecasts and also plan for unexpected rain or winds by adding some shelter (more on ways to keep guests comfortable later).
When sending out invites, don’t forget to include details about things like theme (if you decide to have one) and whether guests should bring anything, as well as any other necessary information.
Choose the Right Barbecue
In need of a new machine? Choosing the right barbecue is essential for a successful barbecue party.
Gas barbecues are great for quick and easy cooking, while charcoal barbecues are perfect for adding smoky flavour to your food. We have hybrid barbecues too, for the best of both worlds.
Consider the size of your party and choose a barbecue that’s appropriate for the number of guests you’ll be hosting. We have a range of sizes, starting from 3-burner to 4-burner and going up to 6-burner. This will allow you to cook more food, as well as different types of food, all at once.
If you’re keeping the gathering small and simple, or taking it further away than your garden, a portable barbecue might be just what you need.
Stock Up on Supplies
Make sure you have all the supplies you need before the day of the party. This includes charcoal and/or gas for the barbecue, utensils, plates, napkins, cups, and serving dishes.
Check that you have all the barbecue tools you need too, such as a tong and spatula. Ensure that both your barbecue and garden are clean and tidy, otherwise you’ll need to add some cleaning supplies to your list as well. Doing some barbecue maintenance in advance is essential to everything going to plan.
It’s also a good idea to have extra seating and shade available for your guests…
Make Sure Guests Are Comfortable
Speaking of seating, if you don’t have one already you may want to invest in a garden furniture set consisting of a sofa, separate chairs, a table and perhaps a parasol (you may need to purchase this separately).
You might even want to purchase a gazebo for shelter if you’re unsure of the weather. This is handy if it’s too sunny and hot, as it will give guests a place to cool down and avoid sunburn.
For cooler days or evenings, adding a fire pit, patio heater and blankets will help keep guests warm and cosy if needed. The fire will also add light and atmosphere to the area.
Choose Your Menu
One of the most important parts – the food! Grilled meats are always a popular choice, but don’t forget about vegetarian options such as grilled vegetables and halloumi cheese.
Remember to include sides such as potato salad, coleslaw, and grilled corn on the cob. And of course, no barbecue is complete without dessert. Try serving up some grilled fruit or s’mores for a sweet finish to your meal.

Prep Your Food in Advance
Prepping your food in advance will make the day of the party much less stressful. Marinate your meats the day before and chop up your vegetables ahead of time too.
This will help you save time on the day of the party and allow you to spend more time concentrating on your guests rather than the food.
Keep It Simple
Remember, barbecues are meant to be fun and relaxed. Don’t stress too much about making everything perfect.
If you are worried, keep the menu simple and focus on spending time with your guests. Most people are happy with a simple burger anyway. You can set up a buffet table to make things easier for yourself too.
Add Some Fun and Games
Adding some fun and games to your barbecue party is a great way to keep your guests entertained. Set up some board games like connect four or activities like giant Jenga or twister.
You could even set up a photo booth or karaoke – if you’re brave enough!
Make Sure You Have Enough Drinks
Make sure you have plenty of drinks available for your guests. Consider serving up some signature cocktails or setting up a self-serve drink station. Don’t forget to have plenty of water available as well.
Keep It Safe
Remember, barbecues can be dangerous if not handled properly. Make sure you’re following all the necessary safety precautions, such as keeping the barbecue away from flammable materials and using long-handled utensils to avoid burns.
Don’t forget to have a fire extinguisher nearby just in case and keep an eye on things at all times.
Clean Up as You Go
Cleaning up as you go will make the end of the party much less stressful. Have a bin set up for your guests to dispose of their plates and utensils, and make sure to keep the area around the barbecue clean and free of debris.
